FT launches new weekly newsletter: The AI Shift
Sarah Ebner: “With The AI Shift, the FT reaffirms its commitment to helping readers make sense of the technological transformation reshaping work and society.”

The Financial Times has launched The AI Shift, a weekly deep-dive into how AI is reshaping work, productivity and society, written by Chief Data Reporter John Burn-Murdoch and Employment Columnist Sarah O’Connor.

The newsletter delivers analysis for FT subscribers, combining original reporting, fresh data and visual storytelling to reveal what’s working – and what’s not – as organisations, policymakers and workers navigate the fast-changing world of AI.

John Burn-Murdoch is the FT’s chief data reporter and writes the weekly Data Points column. He won Specialist Journalist of the Year award at the British Journalism Awards in 2022 and earned an Honorary Doctorate from Cardiff Metropolitan University for his contributions to data journalism, including chart-driven coverage of the pandemic and economic inequality.

Sarah O’Connor is a columnist and associate editor at the Financial Times and writes a weekly column focused on the ever-changing world of work. She has won several awards for her reporting on employment, social policy and demography, including a British Press Award and the 2018 Orwell Prize for Exposing Britain’s Social Evils, which she was awarded jointly with Burn-Murdoch for their widely acclaimed story about the impact of globalisation on small towns.

FT Director of Editorial Growth and Engagement Sarah Ebner said: “With The AI Shift, the FT reaffirms its commitment to helping readers make sense of the technological transformation reshaping work and society. We know our audience is eager to understand how AI will impact their professional lives, and this newsletter will provide exactly that.”

John Burn-Murdoch added: “There are strong claims being made on both sides of the debate around AI’s impacts on jobs, and we relish the challenge of guiding readers to the signal amongst the noise.”

Sarah O’Connor added: “We're excited about developing a closer relationship with our readers through this newsletter. We want to inform them as rigorously as we can, but we also want to learn from them about how AI is beginning to reshape their own professions and industries. After all, this is a story we're all living through."

The newsletter will be sent to FT premium subscribers at 12:30pm UK time each Thursday, added the publisher. The first newsletter is free to read here
