Guardian Eyewitness app now available on Kindle Fire

The Guardian's Eyewitness photography app is now available on Kindle Fire devices via Kindle Fire Newsstand.

One of the world's most popular photography apps, with nearly a million downloads on iPad, the first Guardian Eyewitness app launched in April 2010. Inspired by the Guardian's printed Guardian Eyewitness series, which showcases one of the world's most distinctive and provocative photographs each day across the centre spread of the newspaper, the app brings users the world's most striking and beautiful photographs, as selected each day by the Guardian's picture editors.

The Kindle Fire version of the app, designed in-house at the Guardian and developed and built by Mobica, has as all the same features as the original version, optimised for the Kindle Fire. Users are able to download the app for free to receive one standout image per day which they can view, favourite and share, as accessing an archive of the most recent 100 Eyewitness images. Each image is accompanied by a "pro tip", to give professional insights into the composition or technical specification of a particular image, and EXIF data (where available), such as camera, shutter speed and exposure.

In addition to receiving one free image per day, users can choose to subscribe to the 'Eyewitness Premium' in-app-subscription service, which enables them to view over 100 extra images each month for a monthly subscription price of £1.49 (or local currency equivalent).

Eyewitness Premium provides subscribers with Eyewitness Extra - three additional pictures per day selected especially for the app by the Guardian's award-winning picture desk. In addition to this, a subscription includes access to the new 'Eyewitness Series' collections, which present a single standout picture each day during major world events. Subscribers also receive especially curated themed collections of photographs when live series are not running.

Roger Tooth, the Guardian's Head of Photography, said: "Eyewitness has seen great success and global appeal since its launch on tablet in 2010, so we're thrilled to be able to showcase some of the world's most stunning photojournalism on a brand new device in order to reach an even greater number of photography fans."

The Guardian Eyewitness photography app for Kindle is available via the Amazon Appstore for Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD. To download the app, launch the Amazon Appstore on your Kindle Fire and search for Eyewitness.
