Guardian launches daily election podcast

In the run up to the general election on 8 June, the Guardian’s Politics Weekly podcast is transforming into the Guardian Election Daily, with the first episode launched yesterday.

Co-hosted by Guardian columnists Jonathan Freedland and Owen Jones, and launched at lunchtime UK time every day until polling day, the 20 minute podcast will aim to provoke, entertain and inform the debate going on around the country, says the Guardian.

The Guardian Election Daily will feature Guardian writers and commentators - such as Zoe Williams, Gary Younge and Gaby Hinsliff - as well as pollsters, experts and analysts from across the political divide who will analyse the major election talking points each day from Monday to Thursday. The Guardian’s Politics Weekly podcast - with the Guardian’s political editors Heather Stewart and Anushka Asthana - will continue on Fridays.

The Guardian’s general election coverage also includes:

* Voices and Votes, a new series reporting in-depth from six constituencies around the country. Six Guardian reporters - Josh Halliday, Nazia Parveen, Gary Younge, Amelia Gentleman, Steve Morris and Lisa O’Carroll - are reporting in depth from six featured constituencies repeatedly throughout the campaign.

* A new series of Anywhere but Westminster sees John Harris and John Domokos travel across the country - to areas such as the South-West, Birmingham, Walsall and Lancashire - in search of the real politics.

* The Snap - the Guardian’s daily election briefing

* Daily updates from all the main polling firms in the general election 2017 poll tracker

* A new weekly election cartoon strip from the Guardian’s football cartoonist David Squires

* ‘Outside-in’ commentary from American political analyst and historian Thomas Frank

* Varied perspectives from regular columnists including Gary Younge, Jonathan Freedland, Polly Toynbee, Owen Jones, Martin Kettle and Gaby Hinsliff

Katharine Viner, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media said: “From in-depth political analysis to on-the-ground reporting in constituencies across the country, the Guardian’s distinctive election coverage reaches far outside the Westminster bubble. In a world of increasing uncertainty, our readers are looking for quality, engaged reporting and thoughtful commentary. We look forward to hearing their views in the run up to this election.”
