Media Scotland launches Scotland Now

In a historic year, Media Scotland yesterday launched a new international digital product, Scotland Now.

The site – www.scotlandnow.com - is aimed at the 50 million people with Scottish links who live round the world, whether they are ex-pats or people with Scottish ancestry.

Celebratory and inclusive, Scotland Now will positively reinforce the message that Scotland continues to exert a powerful influence around the world, say the publishers.

The site will deliver a daily update of news, sport, comment and features and will act as a new global voice and online community for Scotland.

A 24/7 social media stream will encourage Scots to share their views, opinions and lives with others, wherever they are in the world.

Partnerships with brands and businesses will see bespoke advertising campaigns, sponsorships and editorial partnerships run on the site.

Launch partners include Glasgow City Marketing Bureau.

An e-commerce platform, ScotlandNowShop.com, is also designed to showcase great Scottish brands as well as unique products made in Scotland.

The Scotland Now team will be led by editor Katrina Tweedie and will be supported by an in-house team made up of editorial and commercial staff as well as a network of globally-based contributors.

The new brand is being launched as Scotland gears up for the Commonwealth Games, Independence Referendum and the Ryder Cup.

Katrina said: “Unashamedly patriotic, Scotland Now will be a place for Scots throughout the world to share what we’re talking, reading, thinking and laughing about.

“Working with like-minded partners our goal is to promote and celebrate everything that makes Scotland great and to embrace our extraordinary global family.”

Allan Rennie, Media Scotland’s managing director, said: “If ever there was a time to harness the energy of the diaspora it is now – when the eyes of the world are on Scotland.

“This is a dynamic development and shows the level of digital ambition we have within the business. Ultimately, our aim is to make the site the number one destination for Scots, and fans of Scotland, wherever they are in the world.”

Alex Salmond, First Minister of Scotland, wrote: "I’d like to wish the very best to Scotland Now, another publication to add to our thriving media industry and at long last a platform to connect the millions of Scots around the world with what’s happening back home."
