New editor for PistonHeads

Haymarket Media Group has announced that Dan Trent has been appointed editor of PistonHeads.com, Haymarket’s online destination for automotive enthusiasts and now the UK’s second largest motoring website.

Trent joins PistonHeads from editorial agency Motoring Research Ltd, where he has been contributing to a wide range of motoring websites including MSN Cars and PistonHeads, but has a long career in journalism which includes music and gaming titles and the editorship of Mercedes Enthusiast magazine before his current role.

Trent (pictured), who will be familiar to PistonHeads members through his regular contributions to the site, said: “Writing for PistonHeads I’ve been exposed to the huge enthusiasm for the site both in the industry and among the thousands of PHers who make up the community. Passionate, knowledgeable and opinionated, the PistonHeads community has a powerful voice and representing that is a huge responsibility. One I’m confident I can do proud, so long as I don’t get too distracted browsing the classifieds and forums…”

Stuart Forrest, Publishing Director of PistonHeads, said: “Dan joins PistonHeads at an exciting time in our development; we’ve seen considerable growth in our audience such that we’re now the UK’s second biggest motoring website, we’ve a swathe of exciting new product developments to our classifieds platform shortly to be unveiled, and Dan will be leading the charge as we develop PistonHeads’ editorial proposition significantly to meet the needs of our enormous, knowledgeable and highly engaged audience of car enthusiasts.”

PistonHeads was launched in 1998 and acquired by Haymarket in 2007. According to Haymarket, it offers its audience a unique mix of news and features, over 100,000 cars for sale, and a lively forum generating more than 10,000 contributions every day. It generates over 200 million page impressions per month from over 4 million unique users, and is the UK’s second largest motoring website (source: Hitwise, September 2011).
