Throughout the month of May industry charity NewstrAid says it will be promoting the benefits of good mental health across the newspaper and magazine industry as part of their Mindful May initiative.
Using social media, their website, and targeted newsletters, the charity says it will use Mindful May to encourage everyone in the newstrade to look after their emotional wellbeing and also take advantage of some of the free resources available through the NewstrAid Wellbeing Suite.
Katie Babooram, welfare manager for NewstrAid said: “Looking after our emotional wellbeing is such an important part of living a happy and healthy life that we wanted to dedicate one month to encouraging the newspaper and magazine industry to take a moment to focus on good mental health.”
As part of the initiative, the charity is encouraging everybody to pledge to do something positive that supports their mental health and wellbeing during May. In addition, they will be promoting tips and advice on maintaining emotional wellbeing, reviewing some of the resources available through the NewstrAid Wellbeing Suite and encouraging more people to take advantage of all the free Wellbeing Suite resources available to anyone with a newstrade connection.
Katie added: “Since we launched our Wellbeing Suite back in 2021, we have seen more and more newstrade colleagues make use of it, but we know many more people would benefit from the huge range of online resources it offers and the confidential helpline, both of which are available completely free of charge. With this in mind, Mindful May is urging the newspaper and magazine industry to focus on mental health, pledge to do something positive for their emotional wellbeing and explore what is available through our Suite.”
The NewstrAid Wellbeing Suite is supported by Hearst UK in memory of Terry Mansfield. It consists of a free 24/7 helpline providing confidential ‘in the moment’ help and advice from clinically trained counsellors as well as a Wellbeing Website featuring hours of industry leading health & wellbeing podcasts, plans and resources supporting mind, body and life.
The free online resources can be accessed by simply visiting the newstraid/spectrum.life website, clicking on the ‘New here? Sign up!’ link and creating a username and password using the organisation code: news2021.
Once registered, NewstrAid says the resources can also be accessed using the same login details via the Spectrum.Life App which can be downloaded on android or IOS.
The Free Helpline can be accessed by calling 0808 196 2016 or by texting/Whatsapping ‘Hi’ to 00353 87369 0010.
