NNE goes live with multi channel content system from Miles 33

Miles 33 has announced that the Newspapers of New England group (NNE) have successfully gone live with a GN4 content management system for their next generation editorial solution.

The system includes TARK4 for archiving and GNWeb for all of their newspaper websites.

The system has been implemented as a private cloud with the main datacentre located in Concord, New Hampshire. A second system in Northampton, MA, about 50 miles away, serves as a full data recovery centre. Content will be replicated automatically.

The total system is licensed for up to 250 users who are spread over 5 different editorial locations. All connect to the private cloud using the “work anywhere” GNi4 client, an HTML5 application that can run on desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Reporters and editors will be able to work from anywhere and instantly capture and make content live, says Miles 33.

First to go live was The Recorder and the Daily Hampshire Gazette, the group’s Massachusetts daily newspapers. The new, responsive design website (www.recorder.com) went live on Super Tuesday, followed by the printed edition of the newspaper the next day.

The websites are powered by the GNWeb module of the system and is licensed for an unlimited number of websites. GNWeb integrates the Kentico WebCMS, which was an important criteria in NNE’s decision to select Miles 33. Kentico includes a vast number of community modules and is tightly integrated into the GN4 system so authorised users can navigate the website pages directly within their editing client and drag and drop content into place. According to Miles 33, the frictionless way that editors can work on print, mobile, and web pages within a single environment was also a key factor in the selection of GN4.

Over the next few weeks, each of the other daily and weekly publications published by NNE will go live using the system, thus phasing in the new technology across the group.

Each of the websites will offer a refreshed look and will feature a responsive design, and the multichannel publishing into digital, print, and social media is done thanks to the “write once, publish everywhere” approach of GN4.

While system and website administration will be centralised, editors within each of the publications are only presented with sections and publications they are responsible for, significantly streamlining their workflows.

Aaron Julien, president and CEO of Newspapers of New England said: “We evaluated a lot of systems and really liked how Miles 33 brought mobile, web, social media and print into a single newsroom management system. It’s incredibly efficient for print production, easy for users to learn, great at image handling and reliable. When seeing how nicely they integrated Kentico, it became clear this was the system for us. And the installation team at Miles has been absolutely great to work with and have delivered on their promises.”
