Joy Robins: “Through this collaboration with Meta, we are thrilled to create and deliver even more incredible New York Times Games experiences that people will love and incorporate into their daily lives.”

On September 16, The New York Times launched the new Wordle 2D panel app for Meta Quest headsets, including Quest 2, Quest 3 and Quest Pro headsets. Solvers can now take their Wordle gameplay into the interactive, new format of Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality, added the publisher.

The Wordle 2D Panel app for Quest headsets allows users to play in a new and fully immersive way. As Wordle was played over 4 billion times in 2023, added the publisher, the Wordle 2D Panel app aims to bring highly engaged audiences who habitually play to this virtual environment.

This built-for-Quest version of Wordle is part of a multi-year collaboration with Meta, added the publisher. The New York Times says it is always looking for new opportunities for people to engage with its distinctive products like Games in creative ways.

“Through this collaboration with Meta, we are thrilled to create and deliver even more incredible New York Times Games experiences that people will love and incorporate into their daily lives,” said Joy Robins, global chief advertising officer of The New York Times. “From the beginning, we have seen so much excitement around Wordle from our audience and the premium brands we work with—this new initiative is a proofpoint of the continued passion around our products and ways we can expand into new formats and digital spaces.”

The New York Times states that it remains independent in its coverage of the world, and will have full control over the design and content of the Wordle 2D Panel app.
