PCS to launch Knowledge at Pub Expo

PCS has chosen Publishing Expo at London’s Olympia 2 in February, 2010 to officially launch its content management and publishing system, Knowledge.

The system is largely browser-based and simultaneously manages the collection, creation and production of digital content to multiple publishing channels for web, e-readers, mobile phones and print.

Knowledge revolutionises the gathering and distribution of content and is accessible through any broadband connection, says PCS. Yet the system embraces all the planning, design, editing and distribution functions a publisher needs – whether that’s in business or public service, magazines or newsprint – using built-in data-mining to help create intelligent workflows that let the content do the work.

PCS is currently finalising the first enterprise rollout of Knowledge at one of the UK’s leading independent publishers, the Midland News Association, owners of the country’s biggest-selling evening newspaper, the Express & Star, its sister title the Shropshire Star and their associated weekly publications.

Here, Knowledge is scheduled to save time and money by combining disparate legacy page planning and management, wire handling, picture desk, pagination, archiving and web content management systems into one seamless workflow.

Pagination is via either Quark Xpress Server or InDesign Server and, as Knowledge has been built around an industrial-strength object oriented database and is backed by resilient hardware and real-time shadowing, it has been built from the ground up to run in a Software-As-As-Service option.

Said PCS managing director, Phil Walker: “PCS is known for a more than 35-year legacy of providing key systems to some of the biggest names in UK newspaper publishing, but Knowledge will let us take our expertise to areas outside our traditional markets and geography.

“We believe Knowledge will truly change the game in digital content management and publishing. This is a system that has been designed and built from the ground up to combine best-of-breed technologies, not by bolting them together, but by incorporating them within the very heart of the process. That makes Knowledge powerful and intelligent, efficient and geographically independent.

“What’s more, our experience tells us that Knowledge triggers savings from the moment it goes live. That means the return on investment begins on day one. And our ability to offer it as a pay-as-you-go service, makes it affordable. It’s a must-see for any publishing enterprise, large or small.”

Publishing Expo at Olympia 2, London, is open on February 24 and 25, 2010 and PCS will be showing Knowledge on stand A54, facing the main entrance.
