Suzy Menkes to join Condé Nast International

Renowned fashion journalist Suzy Menkes will join Condé Nast International as a critic and reporter on all the international Vogue websites, it was announced yesterday by Jonathan Newhouse, Chairman and Chief Executive of Condé Nast International.

Suzy Menkes has established herself, says Condé Nast, as the pre-eminent fashion critic in the world in the past 25 years while covering fashion for the Paris-based International Herald Tribune, which last October rebranded itself as The International New York Times. She will have a permanent presence on Vogue websites in the international markets, including Britain, France, Italy, China, Russia, Japan, Germany and Spain. She will have the title International Vogue Editor.

“Suzy Menkes is a unique talent, with superb judgement about fashion and keen insight into the business behind it. She is hugely influential and respected. Her contribution will bring even greater quality and authority to the Vogue brand,” said Jonathan Newhouse.

Suzy Menkes added, “I am thrilled to become International Vogue Editor at Condé Nast International, which has a real commitment to journalistic excellence, and to have the opportunity to write for a wider global audience through the Vogue websites. I am grateful to have spent 25 years at the International Herald Tribune - a newspaper where I had unstinting support in being able to express myself freely and honestly. I feel this is the perfect time to embrace a new challenge in the digital age."

In addition to her work as a journalist, Suzy Menkes will take a lead role in organising an annual conference devoted to the luxury goods industry under the auspices of Condé Nast International. Additional details of the conference will be announced at a future date.

Condé Nast International has 19 Vogue websites, with a total of 49.2 million unique users and a monthly volume of 489 million page impressions, says the company. They are based in the following markets: Australia, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico/Latin America, The Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
