Earlier this week, Reach announced that Geoff Maynard has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of the Express, following Tom Hunt’s promotion to editorial director, brands, for the Group.
Geoff has been at the Express for 25 years, after previously taking shifts as a reporter at various national titles as well as working at Kent Today and the West Essex Gazette. He joined the Express as a newsdesk forward planner and worked his way up to eventually becoming head of news and then deputy editor.
Geoff said: “I’m honoured to take up the role as editor-in-chief of the Express and would like to thank each and every one of the team for their superb efforts every day. We have an amazing, hard-working team with lots of brilliant ideas to strengthen our brand and continue our outstanding campaigns and investigative journalism.”
Tom commented: “Geoff has been a stalwart of the Express since joining in 2000, and has provided a strong editorial steer and his characteristic humour and flair ever since. I know he’ll continue this in his role as editor-in-chief, as we continue to make ambitious strides in making the brand even more impactful, whether that's through our video growth, our defence newsletter, our newly launched or Daily Expresso vodcast, or our hard-hitting investigations.”
