Ben Riley-Smith: "I'm delighted to have been made The Sunday Times's political editor.”

Ben joins The Sunday Times from The Telegraph, where he spent almost 14 years including five years as political editor. Before that he covered Donald Trump's first presidential term from Washington, D.C., as the paper's US editor. His first book, Blue Murder, was about how the Conservatives secured their long recent stint in power. He is also a regular host of BBC Radio 4's Week in Westminster.

Ben Riley-Smith said: "I'm delighted to have been made The Sunday Times's political editor. I have long been an admirer of the paper's fantastic, agenda-setting journalism. The Sunday Times political reporting has a reputation for being fair, incisive and revelatory. In these uncertain times in Westminster and beyond those values are needed now more than ever. I cannot wait to get stuck in."

Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, said: “Ben has the experience of breaking exclusive stories and covering the biggest issues in London and Washington. Our readers expect political journalism that is authoritative and agenda-setting, and Ben will be central to delivering that aim. He is also a talented broadcaster and will be central to our audio and video strategy. I am delighted to welcome him to the team.”

Ben starts his new role in September.
