The Nation Votes - The Nation Bets

Online betting site Paddy Power has just issued the odds for the 30 shortlisted covers in The Maggies.

Since the voting went live two weeks ago, almost 20,000 votes have been cast in the online poll at www.themaggies.co.uk where consumers are selecting the best magazine covers of the last year. Now, Paddy Power’s involvement gives the nation the chance to put their money where their mouth is.

The bookmaker’s favourites in each of the six voting categories are:

* Celebrity & Entertainment - OK! (Jade Goody Wedding) - Odds of 13/8

* Fashion - Esquire (Daniel Craig) - Odds of 13/8

* Sports & Men’s - Four Four Two (Lionel Messi) - Odds of 10/11

* Lifestyle - She (Angelina Jolie) - Odds of 11/8

* Specialist & Hobbies - BBC History (WW1) - Odds of 5/4

* Business & General Interest - Time (Barack Obama) - Odds of 8/11

The odds on all 30 titles are now live and available at the Paddy Power site.

Jim Bilton, Managing Director of Wessenden Marketing and Chairman of The Maggies’ judging panel says, “The involvement of Paddy Power adds a whole new dimension and a real edge to The Maggies. Looking at the actual votes coming in day by day, there is real movement among the competing titles and the whole vote is still wide open. With no clear winners just yet, the category leaders are constantly changing. Paddy Power may have picked their favourites but there is still a long way to go and there are no safe bets, despite what the odds may suggest!”

Voting closes at midnight on Monday 12th October.  The announcement of the final winners will be made on Wednesday 14th October.

About The Maggies

The public are incentivised to vote for their favourite magazine cover with a reward of a £2.50 iSUBSCRiBE gift voucher – a stark contrast to other public polls, in which participants pay to vote.
