Matt d’Ancona: “I am thrilled to be joining the fantastic team at the New European, a title I have long admired for its writing, news sense, wit and commitment.”

The New European says Matt will write a weekly column and, launching in May, he will host a new current affairs podcast.

Matt d’Ancona said: “I am thrilled to be joining the fantastic team at the New European, a title I have long admired for its writing, news sense, wit and commitment. The ideals it stands for have never been more important.”

Matt Kelly, founder and editor in chief of The New European, said: “Matt is one of a handful of must-read columnists in the UK. His long view on British and European politics, interspersed with a remarkably eclectic set of cultural passions, will be a great addition for our subscribers.”

The New European is an independent publishing company based in north London. Last summer, the title says it raised more than £1million from 2,200 new co-owners at a valuation of more than £6m and counts former NYTimes CEO Mark Thompson, former FT editor Lionel Barber and former Bild editor Tanit Koch amongst its investors.

At the New European, d’Ancona joins regulars Alastair Campbell, Tanit Koch, Bonnie Greer, Paul Mason, Will Self and James Ball.

Matt d’Ancona was editor of The Spectator from 2006 to 2009 and was a founder partner and editor at Tortoise Media, leaving the business earlier this year.
