The Sunday Times appoints new restaurant critic

The Sunday Times yesterday announced the appointment of Marina O'Loughlin as its new restaurant critic.

O’Loughlin, one of the most garlanded restaurant critics writing today, will contribute restaurant reviews to The Sunday Times Magazine each week, continuing in the tradition of the late AA Gill.

O’Loughlin was previously a critic for The Guardian and Metro and has won six major awards in recent years including three Guild of Food Writers awards and Critic of the Year at the British Press Awards.

Martin Ivens, Editor of The Sunday Times, said: “I have long been a fan of Marina's reviews. She has a unique style and sense of fun. She will be a bright star in The Sunday Times's galaxy of talent.”

Eleanor Mills, Editor of The Sunday Times Magazine and Editorial Director of The Sunday Times, said: "I am thrilled that Marina is joining The Sunday Times Magazine, she is a worthy successor to the late and much missed AA Gill. She brings humour, expertise and brilliant writing to the role and her ability to sniff out fantastic new restaurants is second to none. We can't wait for her to arrive."

Marina O’Loughlin said: “I'm hugely excited about joining The Sunday Times - it's where I first started reading about restaurants I could then only dream of visiting. And I'm absolutely awestruck at the idea of following in AA Gill's footsteps, even though my shoes are more likely to be Topshop than hand-made.”
