The Times appoints US editor
Katie Davies: “I look forward to working with some of the finest journalists and editors in the English language.”

In this new role, Katie’s remit will be to expand the breadth and range of Times journalism for a US digital audience. She will be based in News Corp’s head office in New York and will oversee the expansion of the editorial team and the current roster of Times and Sunday Times journalists in the US.

Katie joins the Times from The Independent, where she oversaw the US editorial team, covering subjects ranging from politics to lifestyle. During her tenure she doubled the Independent’s audience. Before The Independent, Katie spent seven years at MailOnline in New York, where she was a senior editor.

Katie said: “I am delighted to join The Times & Sunday Times at a time when they are increasingly ambitious about overseas expansion, particularly in the US. I look forward to working with some of the finest journalists and editors in the English language.”

Tony Gallagher, editor of The Times, said: “We are delighted to welcome Katie in this new role as US Editor. Katie has extensive experience and passion for enterprising journalism and newsroom innovation. Her appointment is a milestone in the expansion of our digital business and I look forward to working with her.”

Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, said: “I welcome Katie to the team. Next year is shaping up to be a momentous one for American politics and it’s the perfect moment for both titles to expand and coordinate their digital coverage.”
