Dezeen launches virtual members club

Dezeen has announced plans for a digital membership club called Dezeen Club. Its first event, called "metaverse meet-up," will be held at a virtual rooftop bar on 7 April.

The invitation-only evening will feature a panel discussion about the rise of parallel digital worlds including digital fashion, virtual reality and the phenomenon of NFTs.

The free event will be held at Dezeen Club's digital rooftop terrace overlooking a virtual cityscape. The club features a bar, a roof terrace, seating areas, a green room and a lecture theatre.

The platform allows you to walk around a virtual environment simply and intuitively by using the arrow keys on your keyboard. As you approach other guests, you are able to video-chat with them.

At the event, says Dezeen, 250 invited guests will be able to network and enjoy a panel discussion exploring how the design world is migrating to the digital world to both work and socialise.

According to the publishers, Dezeen Club is a response to the fact that while the architecture and design world has adapted well to remote working during the pandemic, people are missing the social contact and chance encounters of real-world events.

By organising occasional get-togethers in cyberspace, Dezeen hopes to provide its community with an alternative social platform.

The club, which will initially be invitation-only, will give members access to enhanced functionality on Dezeen's websites as well as access to VIP events in both cyberspace and the real world.
