These appointments, say the publishers, reflect the Guardian's increasing focus on both its US operations and on global multimedia journalism:
Merope Mills (@meropemills) is appointed west coast editor, Guardian US. Mills will relocate to San Francisco to build a team focusing initially on technology, entertainment and news, producing journalism that will not only widen the Guardian's reach across the US, but will also contribute to the organisation's 24/7 editorial coverage, bridging the time zone gap between New York and Sydney. Mills will work with US editor Lee Glendinning to create a truly coast-to-coast US edition.
Paul Lewis (@PaulLewis) is appointed west coast bureau chief, Guardian US, also based in San Francisco. Lewis will focus his extensive expertise in investigations and reporting onto the region; and he will work with Mills to build the Guardian's west coast presence.
Christian Bennett (@christianobeno) is appointed global head of video and audio, based in London. Bennett will build on multimedia experience gained in the UK, Australia and the US to develop a global video and audio strategy that reflects the dramatically changing ways people engage with journalism online.
