Hearst appoints Director of Int’l Licensing & Business Development

Hearst Magazines International (HMI) yesterday announced that Richard Bean has been appointed director of international licensing and business development, effective immediately.

The announcement was made by Simon Horne, HMI senior vice president, chief financial officer and general manager, to whom Bean will report.

“Richard has a wealth of international publishing experience that will allow him to further elevate our brands and brand extensions around the world,” Horne said. “These are exciting times in the publishing industry and at Hearst, and we have tremendous opportunities across titles, markets and platforms. Richard will help us broaden our reach to its full potential.”

In his new role, Bean will be responsible for global media licensing across HMI’s existing international network of joint venture and licensee media partners, while devising and implementing strategies to continue expansion of the network’s reach around the world.

“Hearst Magazines is a global business that I have long admired, and I am thrilled to be joining this giant of the media industry,” Bean said. “I am looking forward to leveraging resources and brands to help Hearst continue its growth and international success.”

Prior to his role at Hearst, Bean was international director of Maxim at Dennis Publishing. He began his career at Future Publishing where he established the company’s export newsstand department and was instrumental in growing its international licensing business.
