It's the signing of the season! says The Times. Henry Winter, who The Times describes as the biggest name in football writing, transferred to The Times on Saturday.
Winter joins a team of football journalists at The Times that includes Oliver Kay, Matt Dickinson, Tony Cascarino, Gabriele Marcotti, Rory Smith, Matt Hughes and Matthew Syed.
He will be contributing to all Times football coverage in the paper and its digital editions, including The Game, the paper's recently redesigned Monday football supplement, and the weekly Monday sport podcasts.
Times subscribers can also watch video highlights of the matches alongside Winter's reports, courtesy of Times Sport's special app, Goals, or online at thetimes.co.uk
On his arrival at The Times, Henry Winter said: "Writing for The Times has been an ambition since I was a schoolboy, marvelling at Geoffrey Green's mastery of the English language and passion for the game. Green retired as football correspondent in 1976 but his reports remain timeless and I grew up on those.
It’s a privilege to join such a brilliant team of Times writers who I have long admired. It's quite a line-up: Brazil '70 with laptops."
John Witherow, Editor of The Times, said: "We are delighted to welcome Henry Winter to The Times. He is a first class journalist who brings flair and verve to every piece, whether an interview with the biggest star or a match report filed on deadline. Times readers will be excited to have him join our team."
