Imagine appoints Paul Cooper as Head of App Development

Imagine has appointed Paul Cooper as its first Head of App Development – responsible for migrating Imagine’s brands to its own digital iOS platform (Martini), and all future digital magazine development.

A key aspect of the role is the creation of bespoke mobile apps on all formats based on Imagine’s key brands – an entirely new area of digital revenue for the company.

Paul Cooper has worked for companies such as Dennis Publishing, BBC, Dovetail Services and Hearst. Following the invention of the iPhone and iPad, he recognised the impact they would have on publishing and helped to establish Dennis Media Factory at Dennis Publishing, where he worked as Design and UX Director, launching over 20 apps in just under three years.

Cooper joins Imagine with the aim to drive the development of new digital editions based the company’s extensive technology, gaming and knowledge portfolio. Speaking of Imagine’s recent digital launches, including Brain Dump and All About History, and its partnership with digital agency, 3 Sided Cube, Paul said “I’m very excited by the system Imagine has already built, it’s a scalable, easy to use system, which allows us to quickly and cost effectively bring new apps to market without the need to rely on third party suppliers or expensive software developers. It gives us a huge advantage over other publishers and I’m thrilled to be given the chance to work on such an industry defining approach to digital publishing.”

“What excites me most about working at Imagine is that my role is totally new and the opportunity it presents is unlimited” added Cooper. “I can take everything I’ve learnt and use it to shape a digital department that’s not just concerned with producing digital editions, but one that works closely with the rest of the company and its partners to create totally new digital products that will enchant and amaze and ultimately propel Imagine up the app charts.”

“I am very much looking forward to working closely with Paul to fully realise the next stage of Imagine’s digital transformation” said Group Managing Director Damian Butt. “We have so many new digital-only magazine ideas, cool app concepts and future developments – and now we have the right person in the right role to make it happen.”

Imagine Publishing is one of the UK’s fastest-growing multimedia content producers. Formed in May 2005, Imagine now publishes 20 regular print magazines, 50 digital apps, 29 websites and thousands of articles every month in the technology, videogames, photography and knowledge/science markets.
