Marcus Hawkins joins latest Radar launch

Future, the special-interest media group, has strengthened the launch of its PhotoRadar site (www.photoradar.com ) with the appointment of company veteran Marcus Hawkins as Senior Editor.

Marcus Hawkins joins PhotoRadar from his position as Senior Editor of Future’s Digital Camera magazine. In his new position, Marcus heads the four strong team that creates PhotoRadar.

Having joined Future in 1994, Marcus worked his way through the editorial ranks at the company. Having successfully edited and launched games magazines, he moved to Future’s digital photography portfolio in 2005 to edit Digital Camera. Marcus was promoted to Senior Editor of the title in 2007.

PhotoRadar promises to help enthusiast photographers of all levels improve their skills, as well as delivering news, reviews and daily visual inspiration. Led by Marcus, the team will produce daily content for PhotoRadar whilst aggregating the wealth of existing print and multimedia content from Future’s award-winning Digital Camera and PhotoPlus magazines.

PhotoRadar is the latest online launch from Future, in a stable that includes BikeRadar, GamesRadar, MusicRadar and TechRadar – and now claims to attract over 25m users globally per month.

Matthew Pierce, Group Publisher of Future’s Digital Creative portfolio, said: “PhotoRadar is a major launch for Future and already has a fantastic wealth of user generated content and fresh editorial. Marcus was the natural choice for this strategically important project. His knowledge of the photographic industry and his track-record in creating compelling editorial content will help grow PhotoRadar from strength to strength.”

The PhotoRadar site was built for Future by Kent-based agency Deeson eMedia. The 3 month project saw Deeson eMedia develop PhotoRadar in Drupal – the popular open-source content management group, also favoured by sites including The Onion, The Economist and MTV.

Deeson eMedia continues to work with Future for the ongoing development and Drupal consultancy of PhotoRadar.com.

Tim Deeson, Director of Deeson eMedia, commented: “This was a great opportunity for us to work with one of the UK’s most digitally innovative content companies to demonstrate what Drupal is capable of. The project felt like a collaboration, with each company bringing its respective strengths to produce an excellent result.”

Richard Foster, Future’s Digital Director, added: “PhotoRadar is a major new launch for Future. We are extremely pleased with the site and enjoyed a positive experience working with Deeson eMedia. We’re looking forward to working with Deeson eMedia as we build on the success PhotoRadar has already achieved to-date.”
