Metro has been chosen as the headline media partner for this year’s Women’s Football Awards.

Metro named awards media partner
Deborah Arthurs: “It’s a real honour for Metro to support this year’s Women’s Football Awards.”

The publisher says the 2024 Women’s Football Awards in association with Metro, will bring together some of the biggest names from the sport at a ceremony hosted by Eni Aluko and Jamie Carragher in London on May 30.

Nominations are now open for public vote, which last year saw Arsenal and England star, Alessia Russo scoop the prestigious Player of the Year Award at the inaugural event, also supported by Metro.

Metro says with the youngest and most diverse audience of all UK newsbrands, it is ideally placed to celebrate the players and people contributing to the phenomenal growth of the sport. Print and digital editorial content, alongside social and email activity, will deliver exclusive updates of the event to the 5 million readers Metro engages with every day across all its platforms.

Deborah Arthurs, editor-in-chief, Metro said: “It’s a real honour for Metro to support this year’s Women’s Football Awards. Our editorial team is passionate about women’s sport, and so are our readers. Amazing events like this are deservedly catapulting it to the status it deserves.”

Eni Aluko, former Lioness and Women’s Football Awards host said: “It is fantastic that Metro is partnering with the Women’s Football Awards once again to help shine a light on the success of women in the game. This event gives a major platform to sport and is the biggest awards event for women’s football in Europe. The 2024 ceremony is set to be the best and most inspiring yet.”

Jamie Carragher, added: "Huge credit to Metro for giving this major platform to celebrating the success of women's football. I am delighted to be part of this event again and joining Eni as co-host. It is going to be a fantastic night."

Metro says women’s football fans can nominate their heroes of the game here between now and February, when the final shortlist will be unveiled ahead of the star-studded awards gala on May 30th.
