Claiming to be the world’s largest online photography contest, Digital Camera’s Photographer of the Year attracts more than 100,000 entries from amateur and professional photographers from all around the globe.
It returns for 2011 boasting its biggest prize purse yet – over £20,000 of cash, photography equipment and goodies.
Matthew Pierce, Group Publisher of Future’s Digital Creative portfolio, says: "With a record year in 2010, it's clear that photography competitions don't get bigger than Digital Camera's Photographer of the Year! For 2011, we're offering an even bigger cash prize pool and more camera equipment then ever before for the winning photographers.
“As well as the classic categories, we've added a new pair for 2011: 'Plants & Gardens' & 'Family and Friendship', and we're expecting to see fascinating entries from novice and expert photographers alike. One thing's certain: the judges are going to have an even bigger job this year.”
A panel of leading professional photographers and industry experts selects winners from across ten hotly contested categories, with the best image in each receiving £1,500. The second-placed picture gets £400, while the third-placed entrant wins a membership to the Royal Photographic Society worth more than £100.
The best of the best is chosen from the ten category champions as the overall winner, receiving £1,000 of equipment as well as the international recognition that comes with being named Digital Camera’s Photographer of the Year 2011.
Entry to the 2011 competition costs £10 for 50 images across the categories – just 20p per submitted photo.

Digital Camera’s Photographer of the Year is organised in conjunction with Digital Camera magazine’s sister site PhotoRadar. The 2011 competition is now open and all submissions must be in before 2pm on Friday, September 30.
