The Telegraph’s Christmas Appeal closed in January 2021 and raised a total of £836,691.86 to support charities which help those suffering from the knock-on effects of Covid-19. In addition to this, last summer, readers donated over £1.2 million to The Telegraph’s Coronavirus Charity Appeal.
The Christmas Charity Appeal supported four chosen charities: Refuge, Carers UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and Cruse Bereavement Care. All of the charities saw a big increase in demand for their services as a consequence of the Covid crisis. Their limited resources were stretched and many fundraising projects were postponed or cancelled. Thanks to the generosity of Telegraph readers, these charities will receive donations to support their vital work.
The Telegraph’s Coronavirus Charity Appeal was launched to raise money for Turn2us, a charity which offers practical and financial support to people facing financial shocks caused by life-changing events. In response to Covid, Turn2us set up a special crisis fund to provide emergency grants of £500 to families who had been hit the hardest. Telegraph readers’ donations enabled over 2610 households to receive crisis grants and the charity’s helpline service was able to open in the evenings and on Saturdays.
