Tim Robinson: "We all thought this would make an excellent campaign for Christmas, a time when everyone thinks about others.”
National World's city daily print titles have launched a Christmas appeal to support Young Lives Vs Cancer. The eight daily newspapers will run editorial pieces on the work of the UK-wide charity every day in December.

Young Lives Vs Cancer (previously known as Clic Sargent) gives specialist support to children, young people and their families undergoing cancer treatment.

This work will feature in pages each day up until December 31 in:

  • Edinburgh Evening News
  • Portsmouth News
  • Lancashire Post
  • Blackpool Gazette
  • Shields Gazette
  • Sunderland Echo
  • Sheffield Star
  • Yorkshire Evening Post.

Readers are being asked to donate (there's a QR code on every page linking to the charity) and National World says it hopes to raise cash and awareness of the charity's Home from Home scheme which provides accommodation when families have to travel for cancer treatment.

The campaign started on Monday, highlighting the story of Esme who was just three years old when she was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and potentially fatal form of cancer.

National World's Daily Press Division Publisher Tim Robinson first became aware of Young Lives Vs Cancer (previously known as Clic Sargent) when hosting last month's Best of Northumberland Awards.

At that event, guests raised an amazing £3,721 for the charity from raffles and donations.

Tim said: “One of the fundraisers explained to me how rates of childhood cancer are actually increasing and how the charity is increasingly needed by families to provide places to stay when they are having treatment.

"We all thought this would make an excellent campaign for Christmas, a time when everyone thinks about others.

"Cancer touches everyone's lives and there will be many families in all of our markets who have been affected by the issue of childhood cancer."

National World says if you would like to support the appeal, there are details in each of the daily papers every day - or you can click here.
