Scott Wood: “The News & Mail and its website will complement our current newspapers and digital platforms in the region, strengthening our reach in the local marketplace.”

Tindle Newspapers Surrey & Hampshire Ltd is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tindle Newspapers Ltd.

Promoted as “Woking’s independent, family-owned newspaper” the Woking News & Mail is published on a weekly basis, with news and information uploaded to its website wokingnewsandmail.co.uk, commented the publisher.

Woking News & Mail employees, who have been notified of the sale, will join Tindle Newspapers Surrey & Hampshire Ltd, the publisher added. The heritage of the Woking News & Mail dates back to its launch in 1894.

According to the publisher, Tindle Newspapers is one of the largest privately-owned local media companies in the UK, with newspapers and news websites covering communities in Surrey & Hampshire as well as Cornwall, Devon, Isle of Man, Somerset, Essex and Wales. The Group also owns radio stations in the Channel Islands and Ireland.

Scott Wood, managing director of Tindle Newspapers Ltd, said: “We are pleased to add to our offering in Surrey by acquiring the Woking News & Mail.

“The News & Mail and its website will complement our current newspapers and digital platforms in the region, strengthening our reach in the local marketplace.

“We look forward to welcoming the Woking News & Mail team into the Tindle Group.”

The acquisition follows the purchase of eight titles in the Voice series, based in Truro, Cornwall, announced last month.
