Albert Read appointed MD of Condé Nast Britain

Albert Read will succeed Nicholas Coleridge as Managing Director of Condé Nast Britain, effective from August 1st this year, it was announced yesterday.

Albert has been successively General Manager and Deputy Managing Director of the British Company.

“All those of us who have worked closely with Albert over the past ten years know him to be a first rate media executive, with skills and accomplishments not only on the management and commercial sides of the business, but a sharp eye for editorial quality in both print and digital. The thing about Albert is that he is smart, hard-working, well-informed, has good judgement and is thoroughly professional in everything he does. He is also a very great pleasure to work with,” commented Nicholas Coleridge.

After studying Classics at Oxford, Albert worked as Comment and Literary Editor of the Daily Express, later supervising the Features pages of the newspaper. Having completed an MBA at INSEAD at Fontainebleau, he switched to the business side of media, working as Strategy & Planning Manager at CNI, and playing an important supervisory role over the Asia Pacific Condé Nast titles in China, Japan, South Korea and elsewhere.

Following a period as Deputy Planning Director, Albert joined Condé Nast Britain as General Manager in which role he played a central part in the launch of British Wired, and took over day-to-day oversight of the Circulation department, amongst other things. Albert was also involved in setting up the Condé Nast business in Mumbai, helped hire talent, and lobby the government to grant permission to publish.

He was promoted to become Deputy Managing Director in 2010, and has since been involved in every part of the business, from print to digital, consumer marketing to custom publishing. He has simultaneously set up the successful Condé Nast International Luxury Conference.

Albert Read said: “I’m thrilled to accept the role of Managing Director of Condé Nast Britain. I long admired Condé Nast in my early life and have been delighted to have been intimately involved in the business since I joined some years ago. It will be an honour and a privilege to lead a stable of titles which, in all their manifestations, put such a strong emphasis on imagination and excellence. With the strength of the brands and the breadth of talent that we have, there are tremendous opportunities ahead.”

This appointment follows the recent announcement that Nicholas Coleridge will be stepping down from his current roles as Managing Director of Condé Nast Britain and President of Condé Nast International in six months, on August 1st 2017. Thereafter, Coleridge will serve as Chairman of Condé Nast Britain until at least December 31st 2019, by which time he will have worked for Condé Nast for 30 years.
