CIG appoints Justin Viljoen
Justin Viljoen: “I am excited to be joining CIG at such a dynamic time for the company.”

Communications International Group (CIG), a UK publisher and pharmacy training provider, has appointed former New Scientist Sales Director Justin Viljoen as the new advertising sales director for its publishing division, following the retirement of Paul Fenton.

Justin Viljoen brings a wealth of experience to CIG, with a 17-year career in media sales and management across newspapers and magazines. He has spent the last 11 years at The New Scientist - four as its sales director – building revenue streams and launching a dedicated creative solutions division.

“We are delighted to welcome Justin to the CIG team,” said Felim O’Brien, CEO of Communications International Group. “His leadership and proven track record in media sales make him a perfect fit for our publishing division. His extensive expertise in driving growth and developing innovative advertising strategies, particularly in the digital sphere, will be key in shaping and delivering our expansion plans.”

Commenting on his new role, Justin Viljoen said: “I am excited to be joining CIG at such a dynamic time for the company. CIG’s commitment to excellence in publishing and pharmacy training are inspiring: their titles are the industry’s established flag bearers, helping to innovate and drive the agenda for pharmacy. I look forward to working with the CIG team to build on their success and open up new opportunities for growth.”

Outside of his day job, Justin takes an active role in promoting publishing best practice. He has been a judge for the Association of Online Publishers Awards since 2021, and last year took on a similar role for the Professional Publishers Association Awards. Married with two young sons, he is also an accredited rugby coach.

Justin takes over from Paul Fenton, who retired in December after a distinguished career at CIG, added the publisher. Paying tribute to him, Felim O’Brien said: “Paul made an invaluable contribution to the company’s development as one of CIG’s longest serving senior team members and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
