Colin Morrison has been awarded a CBE in the 2024 New Year Honours.

Colin Morrison, former CEO/ managing drector of media companies including Axel Springer International, Future, EMAP, RELX and ACP Magazines, has been awarded the CBE in the 2024 New Year Honours for services to education. The award comes six years after he was awarded the OBE for his work in children’s charities and media. He had been chair of the Royal National Children’s Foundation for 15 years. In 2017, he founded the Department for Education’s Boarding School Partnerships. He had been an advisor to successive education ministers.

Morrison says he began his career as a journalist variously in London (Lloyd’s List), Dublin (Sunday Press) and New York (Seatrade) before becoming a publisher, managing director and CEO in international magazine, B2B, and news companies including: Reed Business Information, EMAP, Australian Consolidated Press, Axel Springer, and Hearst.

He has been a non-executive director of Centaur Media, Mark Allen Group, Pharmaceutical Press, and Jacobs Media Group. He is an advisor/ director of: Anthem, Enthuse Group, Stage Media Company, AA Media, Acclaimworks, Green Star Media, and JEGI Clarity.

He also writes and publishes Flashes & Flames, a newsletter which began as a blog in 2012.
