Stationers’ Hall was at full capacity as the livery lunch witnessed the 14th Annual presentation of the Stationers’ Warrants, says The Stationers’ Company. The scheme was established as a mark of recognition highlighting excellence within industries represented in the Company. Over the last 12 years the Stationers’ Company says it has recognised a breadth of industry spanning, Office Products, technology platforms, packaging, binding, pen manufacturing and media.
Upper Warden Ian Leggett speaking to the 180 guests, said the Warrants Scheme was a direct link to the founding Stationers of 1403, giving people an assurance of high quality products or services.
Chair of the Warrants Panel John Livingston raised a laugh when he noted that the Company’s Royal Charter of 1557 gave Stationers the right to break up unauthorised printing presses and destroy illicit printed material. “Whilst the Competition and Markets Authority would take a dim view of this practice, it has not recently been tested in law, and might help further boost membership”, said Livingston.
Warrant applications are judged by a panel of experts from across the industry sectors covered by the Stationers’ Company. Judges looked for applications to meet the following criteria:
- Original design and interpretation of a service or product
- High quality manufacturing/production techniques/digital techniques/digital design
- Effective use of materials and technology, with attention to detail
- Appropriate and sustainable packaging or presentation, suitable for its method of sale
- Environmental credentials and compliance with ethical or relevant trading guidelines
- Relevance to its industry or market sector
Chair John Livingston was particularly delighted to see that as 2026 is the National Year of Reading, there were several holders whose main aim is to encourage the next generation of readers and book buyers.
The Stationers’ Company says its 2026 Warrants have been bestowed upon some remarkable recipients, celebrating their dedication to design, manufacturing and sustainability.
Each new Warrant Holder was welcomed on to the stage with a round of applause to receive the Warrant from Upper Warden Leggett.
