Dave Grohl one-shot from NME

NME celebrates this year’s NME Godlike Genius award winner, Dave Grohl, with a special one-shot magazine dedicated to the former Nirvana drummer and current frontman of the multi-platinum-selling rock band, Foo Fighters.

NME Icons: Dave Grohl dedicates 100-pages to the rock ‘n’ roll legend and marks the first time a winner of the prestigious Godlike Genius Award has had a magazine published in their honour.

NME editor Krissi Murison says: “Dave’s rock’n’roll legacy is an amazing one. Not content with being in Foos, Nirvana and Them Crooked Vultures - three of the most important bands of the past thirty years, he’s also spent his time off playing with everyone from Paul McCartney to Queen. There are so many incredible stories that we soon realised the only way we stood a chance of fitting them all in was to dedicate an entire magazine to him.”

Key features within the magazine include:

• An exclusive interview with Dave Grohl on the new Foo Fighters album.

• Josh Homme waxing lyrical about his Them Crooked Vultures bandmate.

• From Springfield to Nirvana: examining Grohl’s journey from strumming Beatles songs in his bedroom to touring the world as Washington DC’s best drummer – all before Nirvana.

• A feature on Grohl’s secret solo album, ‘Pocketwatch’.

• Iconic photographs – including rare shots of Grohl in his first bands, performing live at Wembley and with Brian May at Queen’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

• Reviews of each album from Nirvana and Foo Fighters.

• An A-Z guide to all of Grohl’s many collaborations.

• Foo Fighters’ first ever NME cover.

Grohl will pick up the NME Godlike Genius award in person – and perform with Foo Fighters – at the exclusive Shockwaves NME Awards 2011 ceremony at the O2 Academy Brixton on Wednesday February 23rd. Two days later he will treat a sell-out Wembley Arena audience to Foo Fighter’s first arena gig of 2011, with very special guests including Cee Lo Green, Band of Horses and No Age.

In response to winning the award, Grohl says: “It's really flattering and really good company to be in. It's a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something that you love to do, but in truth I don't consider it a body of work because I don't consider it work, I just consider it this incredible luxury that I get to play music and travel the world and feed my kids. It's pretty great. Awards and lists can get silly sometimes but I'm very appreciative of this. It's really cool to be called a godlike genius!”

The NME Godlike Genius Award is the highest accolade bestowed at the Shockwaves NME Awards. The culmination of the evening, it recognises truly the best of the best. Previous winners include: Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Ian Brown, New Order & Joy Division and The Clash.

NME Icons: Dave Grohl went on-sale on Friday priced £4.99.
