Gary Cullum: “For the second successive year The Newspaper Awards focused entirely on print, recognising the hugely important role that print continues to play.”

The 2024 Newspaper Awards says the i newspaper just pipped The Guardian to the National Newspaper of the Year Award. Judges commented that “The i newspaper is a value for money newspaper that has quite clearly filled a market gap. It’s cleanly designed, modern and dynamic and packed with objective reporting for an ever-faster moving world.”

The 2024 Newspaper Awards was hosted by TV rugby sports presenter Mark Durden-Smith at the London Hilton Bankside in front of over 300 guests.

The Weekend Newspaper of the Year was won for the second successive year by FT Weekend “a fabulously printed world renowned brand that sparkled with essential news and features.”

The Regional Newspaper of the Year was won by The Irish News, while the Weekly Newspaper of the Year was awarded to The Impartial Reporter.

According to the Awards, the Hyperlocal Newspaper of the Year category was very heavily subscribed with over 30 entries and was won for the second successive year by The Peckham Peculiar.

The International Newspaper of the Year was won by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonnstagszeitung.

Gary Cullum, director of The Newspaper Awards, says: “For the second successive year The Newspaper Awards focused entirely on print, recognising the hugely important role that print continues to play.

“There’s no denying we live in the digital age, with tech giants commanding the advertisers’ pound. But, for many, newspapers and genuine, trusted news brands remain an essential part of daily life. The quality and quantity of entry to The 2024 Newspaper Awards is testament to the continuing resilience of the industry.”
