Mail now available through Amazon Alexa

Mail Plus, the paid-for digital edition of the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday, has become the first news brand to offer its entire daily newspaper content through Alexa, Amazon’s recently-launched cloud-based voice service and the power behind the Amazon Echo and Echo Dot.

Mail Plus digital subscribers get full access to listen to all of the daily editorial content of Mail Newspapers, from the Daily Mail to The Mail on Sunday, as well as the weekend magazines: Weekend on Saturday and YOU and Event on Sunday.

Amazon Echo and Echo Dot are hands-free voice-controlled speakers designed around user’s voice and powered by Alexa. Consumers ask Alexa questions and, among other skills, she’ll answer, play music, set timers and alarms, recite calendars and, in the example of Mail Plus, read the content of an entire newspaper.

The Alexa functionality allows Mail Plus digital subscribers to navigate the newspapers by page, columnist, section, as well as via a “surprise me” phrase, which enables listeners to quickly discover some of the stories making the news via a shuffle-style feature.

Simon Regan-Edwards, Production Director, Mail Digital Publishing commented, “We’re thrilled that Mail Plus is the first news brand in the world to offer its entire newspaper editorial content via Alexa. This new Alexa skill will deliver even greater convenience to Mail Plus subscribers and allow them to get our world class content in a totally new but fun and easy way.”

In addition to the Amazon Echo and Alexa, a Mail Plus digital subscription gives full access to the UK and Scottish editions of the Daily Mail and The Mail on Sunday on iPad, iPhone, Amazon Fire tablets plus Android smartphones and tablets. It is available for £9.99 per month from www.mailsubscriptions.co.uk
