Alongside Jenner, the issue presents an intimate portrayal of Bollywood royalty, Katrina Kaif and Sushant Singh Rajput, in a new and natural light, say the publishers. Six fashion stories mix local talent with models from across the globe, Jaipur street celebrations and a palatial wedding. Editorials from New York and Paris continue the celebration from a local and global viewpoint. Testino’s collaboration with Indian artists Mithu Sen and Thukral & Tagra completes the issue, and this collaboration marks the first time Testino has shot in India.
Priya Tanna, Editor of Vogue India, commented "Mario Testino is to fashion what Milan is to fashion weeks - simply indispensable. As the editor of a fashion magazine, I've always admired Mario's repertoire. To work with him, and share his creative vision was nothing short of spectacular. Seeing India through his lens offers a fresh perspective of the familiar. With over 100 pages of pure art, this collaboration has been so incredible that the May issue of Vogue India is undoubtedly a collector's special."
“Different elements of India have influenced my world – and in turn this issue. It's the people, the art, the colours, the elephants and everything in between,” added Testino. “I wanted to bring my world truly to this amazing nation, by shooting the issue in India. I wanted it to stay true to the Indian spirit.”
To celebrate Mario Testino's takeover of Vogue India's June issue, the renowned photographer is selling a limited edition print in support of local charity, Girl Rising India. The photograph, taken from the June issue cover story, features Kendall Jenner.
