New look for BBC History Magazine

18 July: BBC History Magazine announces that it is to relaunch from the August issue with a comprehensive redesign.

On sale on now, the cover-to-cover revamp is the culmination of an extensive six-month period of reader research and development.

The magazine, which recently celebrated its highest selling issue for almost 10 years, will boast a clean, confident and modern look throughout to cement its position as market leader, says Immediate Media. Key features of the redesign include a new masthead and cover design, updated signposting and navigation, and new colours and fonts. The magazine will also benefit from sharper flatplanning and more white space, which will give every page a more inviting and accessible feel.

Dave Musgrove, Associate Publisher of BBC History Magazine, commented: "This redesign takes BBC History Magazine to the next step. It is an accurate reflection of the upward curve that this market-leading title has been on for the last few years, and it shows how a history magazine can remain true to its subject but also be entirely modern in approach and outlook. Confidence, clarity and currency are the watchwords of the brand, which now has a very strong digital presence as well as continuing to thrive in print.”

Readers will also be able to enjoy new and expanded features and sections: a new section entitled ‘Backgrounder’ will put current affairs into context, while new content will include a regular column from historian and broadcaster Michael Wood and a pick of the month’s most important anniversaries put together by acclaimed author Dominic Sandbrook. Links to ‘BBC History Magazine’s’ digital propositions, which include an award-winning podcast as well as iPad, Kindle Fire and Google Play editions, will be integrated throughout.

The redesigned August issue of BBC History Magazine will go on sale next Wednesday, priced £4.25. The first new-look issue explains how Boudica and other British rebels battled the Roman conquerors, reveals the real story behind Mary, Queen of Scots' fall from grace and explores the lives of medieval immigrants in England. The issue also features a pull-out supplement telling the story of the American Civil War.
