New name for Backpass

Backpass, a monthly football title, has a new owner and new name. Now called Extra Time & Backpass, the first issue of the new look magazine goes on sale 31 January, priced £4.20.

According to distributors COMAG Specialist: Launched in 2007, Backpass provides retro football features to fans interested in the beautiful game of the 60s, 70s and 80s, the great players and classic games of the era.

Recently acquired by Extra Time Publishing, Backpass has been given a refresh, with a new look and feel, new writers and columnists and a new name from the February issue.

Now called Extra Time & Backpass, the new look thinking man’s football magazine will continue to cater for fans of retro football, but will now have brand a new section featuring current football, although this will be mainly from a reflective, retro viewpoint.

Combining the best of both old and new football, the February issue of Extra Time & Backpass will have features on two ‘wing wizards’. In addition to an article on cover star Gareth Bale, this edition will have an eight-page feature on Sir Stanley Matthews on the eve on what would have been the 100th birthday of the so-called ‘Wizard of Dribble’.

The February issue of Extra Time & Backpass will also have articles on Manchester United managers through the years, former West Brom boss Alan Irvine, Birmingham manager Gary Rowett, rising MK Dons star Dele Alli and Burton Albion’s Stuart Beavon, as well as features on Cardiff City, Barnsley and Carlisle United.

The retro section in this issue of Extra Time & Backpass will include articles on former players Gerry Hitchens, Martin Buchan, Don Masson, Iwan Roberts and Gary Mackay.

In addition to all this, the February edition of new look Extra Time & Backpass will have columns from top sports writers Patrick Barclay and Norman Giller, former England striker Malcolm Macdonald, ex-manager David Pleat and former Scotland boss Craig Brown.
