NYT launches family subscription
Hannah Yang: “The New York Times has long been a shared ritual, and we are thrilled to introduce this new offering that provides more opportunities for our users to connect with family and friends through The Times.”

Earlier this week, The New York Times launched its new family subscription offering. Designed for up to four individual users, this new offering enables families and friends to make The Times their own, together in one subscription.

The Times says it has long been a shared ritual, from sharing favorite Cooking recipes to audio journalism together in car rides and starting group chats for game play. It says its new family subscription enhances this communal experience.

According to The New York Times, each user receives a login, which will allow them to control and customize their Times experience based on their interests and preferences — whether it’s saving articles, subscribing to favourite newsletters, having your own Games stats and streaks, adding new recipes to your recipe box, saving your most-read shopping guides or following your beloved sports teams and leagues.

The publisher says it is offering two types of family subscriptions: All Access Family, which offers all four users access to all of The Times digital products; and Games Family, which offers all four users access to our Games portfolio. All Access Family is available for $30/month for up to four users (promotional pricing may vary) and Games Family is $10/month.

“The New York Times has long been a shared ritual, and we are thrilled to introduce this new offering that provides more opportunities for our users to connect with family and friends through The Times,” said Hannah Yang, chief growth and customer officer. “Readers and subscribers can read, listen, play, solve, cook and shop, together through one Times subscription.”

To celebrate, fans are invited to a series of family-size moments nationwide, each built for four and inspired by New York Times journalism, added the publisher. New Yorkers may have already spotted a four-person bike rolling through the city; now, it’s headed across the country delivering more family-friendly fun, the publisher continued.

The New York Times explains more about the bike tour stops below.

New York City: Last weekend, you may have seen the four-person bike take to the streets during the city’s biggest tennis tournament, inviting families and friends to play a round of doubles. Inspired to play? Order a family-size pack of four tennis balls from The New York Times Store this fall and keep following all of your fan-faves on The Athletic.

Boston: Head to Boston Public Library to bond over books, then enjoy four favourites from The New York Times Book Review. (Sept. 13, 11 a.m.)

Los Angeles: Indulge in popsicles for four near Surfrider Beach — then keep cool at home with the help of Wirecutter. (Sept. 18, 1 p.m.)

Chicago: Pasta for four is headed your way ahead of Marathon weekend. Prepare for a family-size feast, and browse pasta recipes on New York Times Cooking. (Oct. 9, Tortello, 12 p.m.)
