Reach has announced the appointment of Neil McIntosh as editor-in-chief, Scotland. Neil, who will join the team officially later this month, will oversee all of the Scottish brands, including EdinburghLive, GlasgowLive and Sunday Mail and will also edit the Daily Record.

Neil most recently served as editor of The Scotsman, where Reach says he led a successful relaunch of the publication’s website. Other previous roles include managing editor of BBC Online, deputy editor (Europe) at The Wall Street Journal and head of editorial development at guardian.co.uk.

David Higgerson, Reach’s chief content officer, said: “Neil brings a strong blend of editorial depth, digital insight, and true understanding of the Scottish audience, as well as strong experience I’m very glad to welcome him to the team and have no doubt that he’ll be well placed to continue to grow our distinctive brands and our loyal audiences in Scotland.”

Neil said: “I’m delighted to be joining Reach at an exciting time for the company, and an important point in the digital transformation of the company’s famous Scottish titles. They’ve long occupied a central role in Scottish life, driven by a terrific team of journalists who regularly break agenda-setting stories for the communities they serve. I’m looking forward to building on that success.”

Reach also announced that Gary Rogers will be joining the editorial senior leadership team at Reach, in the newly created role of director of newsroom transformation. A former BBC leader and independent newsroom consultant, Gary will focus on developing the company’s editorial AI strategy and supporting long-term newsroom innovation.

David said: “I’m delighted Gary has chosen to join Reach. His track record in helping media teams make the most of technological opportunities is well-known across the industry. As a company, we seek to make the most of all opportunities to engage with audiences wherever they are, and Gary’s role will be crucial to ensuring we do so in a rapidly changing world.”

Gary said: “I am delighted to be joining Reach at this pivotal time for the news industry, as emerging technologies present new challenges. I look forward to working with newsrooms across the business to develop the best solutions to meet these challenges, serving audiences with great national, regional and local journalism.”
