The Southern Daily Echo has surpassed more than 5,000 digital subscribers — a milestone in the newspaper’s ongoing commitment to delivering trusted local journalism in the digital age.

Southern Daily Echo surpasses 5,000 digital subscribers
Ben Fishwick: “Reaching 5,000 digital subscribers is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of our newsroom.”

The Southern Daily Echo says this achievement reflects the continued support of readers across Southampton and Hampshire who value quality, locally focused news and storytelling from the regional daily newspaper.

Subscribers support the Echo's commitment to covering local news, in particular coverage of the courts and of Southampton FC, added the publisher.

Regional Editor Ben Fishwick said: “Reaching 5,000 digital subscribers is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the hard work of our newsroom.

“It shows there’s a real appetite for accurate, engaging and independent local journalism. Our readers’ support allows us to continue holding those in power to account and sharing the stories that matter most to our communities.”

The Southern Daily Echo claims it reaches 73 per cent of adults in print and online in Southampton.

The newspaper says it continues to invest in its digital platforms, offering subscribers unlimited access to news, in-depth investigations, sport, entertainment and more — available online and through the Echo app.

This milestone underscores the Echo’s growing digital success and its dedication to evolving with the needs of its readers while maintaining its 140-year tradition of trusted reporting. Subscribers have full access to all stories on dailyecho.co.uk, with the website in growth year after year, the publisher continued.

Digital subscribers also have full use of the Daily Echo app, available on Apple and Android devices, with latest articles and the digital edition of the newspaper.

According to the publisher, archive newspapers are also available to any subscriber through the Echo’s partnership with Ancestry and newspapers.com which hosts digitised copies of the paper’s editions stretching back decades.

Readers can also access Newsquest Rewards with discounts and special offers.
