Staff changes at Stuff magazine

Stuff, the gadget magazine, is reshaping its editorial team ahead of the launch of a redesign issue on August 6.

From August 1, Tom Dunmore is to relinquish his role as brand director of Stuff. Dunmore, who has worked at Haymarket Media for a decade, will continue to contribute to Stuff magazine and its website, Stuff.tv, in a new part-time role as consulting editor.

“Stuff is in my blood, but my life has changed,” says Dunmore. “Earlier this year my first daughter was born, and I’m keen to spend more time with her while also establishing my own creative consultancy business.”

“When I joined, Stuff was a struggling magazine with a circulation of 50,000 and no international presence. I’m proud to have been part of the massive success of the magazine. Stuff is now the third most widely published men’s magazine in the world, with 28 international editions and a worldwide readership of over 3 million. And I’m confident that our redesigned edition will help the brand to grow further.”

Stuff’s commissioning editor Will Findlater has been promoted to deputy editor in order to provide more support for editor Fraser Macdonald, while the Stuff.tv website team has been strengthened by the return of Mic Wright – formerly of Stuff magazine and Q – as news editor.

Haymarket Consumer Media’s strategy and planning director Bob McDowell is set to take interim control of the publishing duties at Stuff.

“Tom has been a truly inspirational leader of the Stuff brand for a decade, a major force in its growth, and, as a consequence, became a familiar media commentator on the gadget world,” says McDowell. “For once ‘spending more time with the family’ isn’t a euphemism – Tom will be sorely missed as brand director but we’re glad he will remain a part of the Stuff editorial team. We’re confident that Stuff is in great shape to build on its current market-leading success.”
