Telegraph launches Festival of Business’s SME of the Year Competition

On Friday, Telegraph Media Group (TMG) launched a nationwide competition to find The Telegraph Festival of Business’s SME of the Year.

The winner will be announced at the Telegraph Festival of Business at The Brewery in London which takes place on Tuesday, 11th November, 2014.

The competition will be run in partnership with FedEx and hopes to celebrate and support the significant achievements of small and medium sized businesses throughout the UK.

To enter the competition, entrants’ businesses must have between 1 and 200 employees and must explain in 200 words or less why it is outstanding. They must also describe in 100 words a special moment in the life of their business of which they are most proud. Anyone in the firm can complete the entry form but only one entry per business will be accepted.

The judging panel will consist of singer and successful business woman Myleene Klass; Telegraph Festival of Business editor Rachel Bridge, and Trevor Hoyle, Vice President of UK and Ireland, FedEx.

Six shortlisted businesses, selected by the judges from the pool of entries, will be profiled in The Telegraph. The winner will be announced in front of an audience of senior business people at The Telegraph Festival of Business on 11th November.

The Telegraph Festival of Business, now in its fourth year, will bring together a wide range of UK firms and leading figures from the world of business, with confirmed speakers including Sir Martin Sorrell, Chief Executive of WPP, Nigel Wilson, Chief Executive of Legal & General Group plc, Sir Charlie Mayfield, Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, Tim Steiner of Ocado and Roger Bootle of Capital Economics.

Expert panels focussing on SMEs and entrepreneurship will be lead by figures including Angus Thirlwell, Founder of Hotel Chocolat; Thea Green, Founder of Nails Inc; Rupert Lee-Brown, Founder of Caxton FX; James Meekings, Founder of Funding Circle; Phil Jones, CEO of Brother and Kathryn Parson of Decoded. These panels will offer practical sessions on topics such as financing growth; export opportunities; and how to find customers.

The deadline for entries closes at midnight on Tuesday 30th September.
