The Guardian has outlined its UK general election coverage, including new daily newsletter Election Edition.

The Guardian outlines election coverage
Katharine Viner: “Elections have real consequences; that’s why our mission for the UK general election, and all the other huge votes taking place this year, is to cover not just the odds, but the stakes.”

Over the coming weeks, the Guardian says it will provide its global audience of readers with informative and imaginative reporting, political analysis and a playful take on the 2024 UK general election, with a focus on what people really think and why.

The Guardian’s team of political reporters, commentators and on-the-ground journalists will go beyond the Westminster bubble to capture the public mood in constituencies and regions across the nation, as well as offering a global view for readers around the world looking to understand more deeply what is happening in the UK, added the publisher.

The Guardian says coverage across newsletters, audio, video, online and print includes:

  • New Election Edition newsletter by Archie Bland, guiding readers through the twists and turns with a fast and funny email briefing every weekday at 5pm BST
  • Behind-the-headlines insight from Guardian reporters in expanded news and politics podcasts, including flagship daily news podcast Today in Focus with Michael Safi and Helen Pidd, Election Extra mini-episodes every weekday evening throughout the campaign, Politics Weekly UK with John Harris, and new Politics Weekly Westminster episodes with Pippa Crerar and Kiran Stacey
  • The return of video series Anywhere but Westminster, which will go beyond the centres of power to feature the experiences of people and places too often ignored
  • Community-focused interview series Path to Power, hearing from a diverse range of voters and non-voters around the UK to find out what matters to them and why
  • Andrew Sparrow’s essential live blog, Marina Hyde’s campaign trail, data analysis and big figure interviews
  • Plus, the Guardian will explore how the UK election impacts all sections of society, scrutinising election promises and policies on the environment, industry and business, the economy, and misinformation in the age of AI and social media

Katharine Viner, editor-in-chief, Guardian News & Media says: “Elections have real consequences; that’s why our mission for the UK general election, and all the other huge votes taking place this year, is to cover not just the odds, but the stakes.

“The Guardian will focus attention on on-the-ground reporting, listening to voters and non-voters about their concerns, as well as analysing how the last 14 years of Conservative rule have shaped our lives. We will find out how people feel about their communities and about how they are governed, interrogating the impact of political decisions at this crucial time.”
