Think Publishing takes top accolade

Think Publishing has been named Independent Publishing Company of the Year at the Independent Publisher Awards 2009.

The company was presented with the award at the event held on December 1 at Vinopolis, London by James Caan, entrepreneur and panellist on BBC’s Dragons’ Den.

The award rounded off a strong showing for Think Publishing (pictured), which also won the Customer Magazine of the Year – a new category – for BEER while Tilly Boulter of Think Publishing won the Individual Achievement Award.

Procurement Leaders from Sigaria was named Business Magazine of the Year and also won the Brand Extension of the Year award. ShortList Media also took two accolades: ShortList was named Consumer Magazine of the Year and Chris Deacon of ShortList was named Designer of the Year.

Further winners at the event included Gwyn Roberts from Pageant Media’s HFMWeek for Editor of the Year; Communicate Magazine from Cravenhill Publishing for Launch/relaunch of the Year; Total Telecom from Terrapinn Holdings for Online Brand of the Year; and New Start from New Start Publishing for Team of the Year – another new category.

Clive Foskett, CEO of Signature Publishing and chairman of the Independent Publishers Advisory Council (IPAC), said: “The Independent Publisher Awards is an important event to celebrate the talent and creativity within the independent publishing sector. The winners all demonstrate the strength and depth of talent alive within these innovative publishing companies.”

Prior to the awards ceremony there was a forum debate which tackled some of the key issues facing independent publishers, chaired by writer and broadcaster Guy Browning. The panel comprised Signature Publishing CEO Clive Foskett; Time Out editor Mark Frith; Steve Gilroy, chief executive of Vistage International (UK); Rob Grimshaw, managing director of FT.com; and Graham Stuart, Conservative MP and chairman of CSL Publishing.
