Third record traffic month in a row for theguardian.com

The Guardian website has recorded its third record traffic month in a row, according to the latest digital ABC numbers.

The data confirms that theguardian.com and Guardian apps reached 91.1 million unique browsers in February 2014, 1% up on January's record figure and 18% up since this time last year, says the Guardian.

The number of daily average unique browsers recorded in February also hit a record high at 5.4 million, up 8% since January's previous record and an 18% rise year-on-year.

February's record figures were largely driven by strong traffic from outside of the UK. The Guardian's recent Snowden revelations proved particularly popular, with the article on the interception of Yahoo webcam images being read by over 1 million unique browsers across the course of the month.

David Pemsel, deputy chief executive, Guardian News & Media, said: "2014 is already proving to be a fantastic year for the Guardian on all fronts, and February's record traffic, confirmed today, is yet more great news. Our digital growth outside of the UK is testament to the fact that we are now a truly global brand."

Separate data published this week by Newswhip reveals that the Guardian website was one of the top ten most-shared publishers on Facebook in February.
