Tindle appoints Joe Bulmer

Tindle Newspapers has announced the appointment of a new regional digital editor to lead on online editorial content at four of its Devon titles.

Tindle appoints Joe Bulmer
Joe Bulmer: “There was a great appeal in working for a company which has reporters based in offices on their local high streets."

Tindle Newspapers says Joe Bulmer has joined to take on responsibility for the Crediton Courier, Mid-Devon Advertiser, South Hams Gazette and Tavistock Times Gazette series.

Based at Tindle’s office in Newton Abbot, the publisher says Joe joined in July having coordinated the winning General Election campaign of Ian Roome MP, who took the North Devon seat.

Joe brings a wealth of editorial experience having worked as director for Devon media business Clear Sky Publishing, as well as from his time in news roles in the county working for Trinity Mirror, Archant and Nub News.

Joe, who will support 14 journalists in delivering content across Tindle’s print, digital and social media platforms, said moving to his new role had a strong appeal.

Joe said: “There is clearly a buzz around Tindle because of its investment in news and its newsrooms.

“It is nice to be working somewhere with such a positive atmosphere, with a great team of journalists who are passionate about local news. It has been a pleasure to get to know them and how they serve our audiences.

“There was a great appeal in working for a company which has reporters based in offices on their local high streets. People like to bring in their news stories and advertising requests, which is a real asset of the company.”

Tindle says the focus for Joe and his team will be on continuing to grow the multimedia news offering, he said. “I have done a lot of work in this area and I am enjoying getting into this role,” said Joe. “We are being encouraged to experiment and try new things to see how the audience reacts.

“I grew up in Devon and wanted to build on my career here having covered the whole of the county across my local roles to date. The news issues remain similar in each area and I have been impressed by how all of our staff love working in their communities. They are passionate advocates for the areas where they live and work.”

Jon Gripton, Tindle deputy editorial director, said: “We are delighted to welcome an editor of Joe’s calibre to join us as we grow engagement across our print and digital titles. Local knowledge is essential to our success so we are pleased to have Joe on board to lead our journalists moving forward.”
