WSJ Launches Live Video from Asia

The Wall Street Journal has expanded its video programming from Asia with the launch of Asia Today, a live show featuring the latest news and developments in Asia.

Airing weekdays at 6:30 a.m. ET, Asia Today will provide the Journal's global audience with insight and analysis on the day's leading business, financial and general news stories, in addition to coverage of breaking news and developments.

"Global business and investment decisions are increasingly driven by political, economic and social developments in the Asia-Pacific region," said Almar Latour, Asia editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires. "With the launch of Asia Today we can deliver authoritative video summaries of the latest and most important stories at the start of the East-coast day."

Segments will be broadcast live and then available on demand via WSJ.com and on WSJ Live, the Journal's video app for iPads, iPhones and Internet-connected televisions. WSJ Live is available on 18 digital platforms, including a dedicated YouTube channel and is central to the "Journal Everywhere" digital strategy.

Produced and hosted by Deborah Kan from the Journal's Hong Kong bureau, Asia Today will feature commentary from Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones Newswires editors and reporters spanning the Asia-Pacific region, including from bureaus in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Jakarta, Mumbai, New Delhi and Sydney, among other major cities.

Ms. Kan is a veteran broadcast journalist with 15 years' experience as a news presenter with Reuters Insider, Star World and TVB in Hong Kong, as well as with KPIX-TV in San Francisco. She joined The Wall Street Journal as an executive producer in December 2011 to help steer the launch of the Journal's video offering in Asia.

Adam Najberg, Asia Editor of WSJ.com, said: "Deborah brings substantial experience to the Journal in Asia and her appointment underscores the importance we place on video programming. As we reach our readers via new digital platforms, we want to maintain the consistently high level of quality they expect from The Wall Street Journal."

Taped video segments from Asia, which have been available on WSJ.com and WSJ Live since earlier this year, will augment the newly launched live programming.

Asia Today joins other live programming, including the recently launched News Hub GMT from London in addition to Digits, Lunch Break, Mean Street, Markets Hub, Opinion Journal, Off Duty and News Hub AM/PM from New York. This rapid growth in programming and distribution has powered an 85% growth in video streams since the start of the calendar year for the Wall Street Journal Digital Network and has attracted a range of innovative advertisers across categories.

Wall Street Journal video features more than four hours of live programming each business day, with multiple shows, news updates, reporting from the field, exclusive interviews and special events coverage as well as an extensive archive of on-demand video.
