Auto Trader to launch new consumer publication for tablets

Auto Trader, the digital marketplace for new and used cars, is to launch in November a new interactive, digital motoring consumer publication titled ‘ignition’.

Available on iPad devices, ‘ignition’ offers readers a combination of lifestyle and research content relevant to the everyday motorist, say the publishers. The publication will be available monthly at £1.49 a download and will include news on the latest car launches and motoring advice. All the content will be created in-house by Auto Trader’s editorial team, including in-depth video reviews hosted by Auto Trader’s editor-in-chief Jon Quirk.

In what Auto Trader claims is a worldwide first for a Newstand app, ‘ignition’ will include an integrated search function, enabling readers to search Auto Trader’s database of 410,000 new and used vehicles at a click of a button and providing dealers with another channel to access potential car buyers.

Nick Gee, Director of Mobile at Auto Trader said: “Mobile is an extremely important platform for the company, with over a third of our traffic coming from non-desktop sources. Consequently, we wanted to develop a digital publication which is informative, engaging and useful for the average motorist. Our research shows that consumer engagement with the Auto Trader brand is at its highest when using tablet devices, so ‘ignition’ will support consumers continuing their car buying journey from their living room to the dealer forecourt, with Auto Trader.”

Encapsulating Auto Trader’s 35 year heritage and reflecting the company’s credentials, ‘ignition’ will evolve to become a one stop shop for automotive research on the iPad and will be an integral touch-point with the brand’s rapidly expanding mobile user base, says Auto Trader.

The first issue of ignition will be available to download during November 2012 from the Apple App Store priced at £1.49.
