The Bauer Puzzles team says they have a long running partnership with Alzheimer’s Society and have been producing their monthly Brain Workout puzzle pack since 2020. This piece of activity which includes 16 puzzles titles, and six other Bauer brands aims to align Bauer brands with positive mental health and to publicise the brands association with, and support of, an important mental health charity.
Whilst there is no proof that puzzles directly stop or delay cognitive decline, added the publisher, research suggests that regularly challenging your brain and engaging in mental or social activities may help to build your brain’s ability to handle disease, relieve stress and improve your mood. Sharing puzzles can also help people feel connected to loved ones and bring back positive and enjoyable memories.
The publisher says 16 puzzle titles including Take a Puzzle and Take a Crossword, along with Take a Break, that’s life, Bella, Yours, Closer and heat have dedicated editorial space in their September issues highlighting the benefits of puzzles and information about World Alzheimer’s Month. They also feature interviews with carers and family members who have been helped by the Alzheimer’s Society’s tireless support, including Ella Vaday, an avid supporter of the charity.
John Simmonds, publisher (Puzzles), Bauer Media said: “In recognising the link between puzzles and positive mental health, whether as a tool to keep minds active or as an opportunity to relax, I believe gives us a responsibility to ‘get involved’ how and where we can, to raise awareness and support mental health charities.
“Working with Alzheimer’s Society for World Alzheimer’s Month is something we’ve been building towards through the year and we’re proud to support the important work that the charity does to help those people living with and affected by dementia.”
Dr Tim Beanland, head of knowledge at Alzheimer's Society, and author of brand-new puzzle book, Mind Games added: “We are so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the team at Bauer on this campaign and are thankful for their incredible support to help end the devastation caused by dementia.
“One in three people born in the UK today will develop dementia in their lifetime. By raising awareness and much-needed funds, the team has provided invaluable support, giving help to those living with dementia today and providing hope for the future.
“Alzheimer’s Society has been working in partnership with Bauer since 2020 and since then Brain Workout has gone from strength to strength. Their puzzle expertise means that each monthly Brain Workout pack is varied and exciting so that supporters are consistently getting the most from their generous gift.”
