Bloomberg appoints Rostin Behnam
Rostin Behnam: “I’m thrilled to be joining Bloomberg at a time when trusted data and informed policy engagement matter more than ever in global financial markets.”

Bloomberg LP last week announced that Rostin Behnam, former chairman of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), has been appointed global head of public policy & corporate affairs, effective immediately.

In this role, Bloomberg LP says Behnam will lead Bloomberg’s U.S. Government Relations efforts, overseeing engagement with federal and state policymakers, regulators, and corporate clients. He will work to advance Bloomberg’s commitment to transparency, data-driven decision-making, and well-functioning financial markets.

Behnam brings more than a decade of senior leadership experience at the intersection of financial markets, technology, and public policy. He served as chairman of the CFTC from 2021 to 2025, where he oversaw U.S. derivatives markets during a period of significant growth, volatility, and technological change. During his tenure, Behnam was recognized for strengthening market resilience, advancing global regulatory coordination, advancing several data and technology initiatives, and prioritizing risk management across traditional and emerging asset classes.

Prior to serving as chairman, Behnam was a CFTC commissioner and previously held senior roles in the U.S. Senate. An independent member of the FINRA Board of Governors, Behnam is currently a Distinguished Fellow at the Georgetown University’s Psaros Center for Financial Markets and Policy.

“Russ is a trusted voice at the intersection of markets and public policy,” said Vlad Kliatchko, Bloomberg CEO. “He understands how regulation, technology, and data shape real-world markets, offering an incredibly valuable perspective to our clients and policymakers. I’m excited to welcome him to Bloomberg.”

“Russ’s tenure as CFTC chairman demonstrated his commitment to market integrity, global regulatory cooperation, and thoughtful, data-driven policy,” said Mary Schapiro, Bloomberg vice chair for global public policy. “His years of leadership experience, combined with market expertise and sound regulatory judgment, make him perfectly positioned to help Bloomberg continue supporting well-functioning global financial markets.”

As global head of public policy & corporate affairs, Bloomberg says Behnam will work closely with its public policy, legal, business, and communications teams across the Americas, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, supporting the company’s engagement on issues ranging from financial regulation, data standards, emerging technologies, and sustainability.

“I’m thrilled to be joining Bloomberg at a time when trusted data and informed policy engagement matter more than ever in global financial markets,” said Behnam. “Bloomberg plays a unique role in supporting markets and helping governments operate more transparently and efficiently, and I am excited to begin contributing to that mission.”
